SatNetCom is connected to the global internet via a very high speed connection.  We then connect to our clients through high speed microwave links.  The equipment at the client location consist of a small (25cm x 40cm x 5cm) microwave antenna (see photo at left) and a small (3cm  15cm x 10cm) converter (see photo below) which plugs into your computer's network adaptor or network router.

Placement of the Antenna

In order to determine whether we can serve you, we must first determine if you are within range of one of our antennas.  We will send out a technician who will survey your location and determine the best placement for your antenna.  Sometimes this can be accomplished by just mounting the antenna outside a window.  Other times the antenna must be installed on a pole or tower mounted on the ground or on roof.  We will always consult with you and get your approval before determining the final antenna location.

High Speed Internet > How It Works

Network Card in Your Computer

In order to connect to SatNetCom it is required that your computer have a network adapter. Most modern computers come with them already installed. However, if you do not we can install one for you. If you are running a network, SatNetCom connects into your router, hub or switch.

Configuring Your Computer

Once the antenna is installed, usually there are just a few other things we need to do in order to get your computer surfing the internet at highspeed.

1. Computer Address: Set the address(s) of your computer(s)

2. Email Configuration: If you use web based email, such as Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, or MSN Mail, no change is necessary. If however, you use an email program like Outlook or Outlook Express, it must be configured to work with our email system in one of the following ways:

a. Keep your current address (e.g. yourname@yourcompany.com) and continue to pickup your mail from your old email provider. The disadvantage of this option is that you still need to pay for your current internet service. Although it is sometimes possible to reduce the costs.

b. Change your email address to your new SatNetCom address (e.g. yourname@SatNetCom.com).

Speed

SatNetCom offers many levels of service, based upon the maximum speed of the connection. Speed is measured in Kilo-Bits Per Second (kbps). One kilo-bit is equivalent to 64 characters (0-9, A-Z, etc.). A VERY GOOD telephone line with a modern modem will run at a top speed of 56 kbps. However, most telephone lines in Indonesia can only run at a top speed of about 16 kbps.

The following table compares the SatNetCom service levels to the speed of a typical Indonesian telephone line running at an average speed of 16 kbps:
